IBT Enterprises Joins U.S. Green Building Council

ATLANTA – September 24, 2007 – IBT Enterprises, a leader in design, construction and consulting for the financial services and specialty retail industries, has joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The USGBC is a non-profit organization composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. IBT is one of the first design/build providers with a focus on financial services to have USGBC standing.

According to the USGBC, U.S. buildings are responsible for 12 percent of the nation’s water use, 36 percent of green house gases, 40 percent of solid waste and 70 percent of the nation’s electricity consumption. By contrast, green buildings can save 30-50 percent of energy, 38 percent of CO2 emissions, 40 percent of water and 70 percent of solid waste.

“The documented impact buildings have on the environment is considerable,” said Mylle Mangum, CEO of IBT. “Designing and constructing facilities that adhere to sustainable build and operational principles helps fulfill our clients’ desire for meaningful, substantive and long term community involvement. This allows our clients to both reduce their daily impact on the environment, and enjoy lowered operational costs over the life of the building.”

According to a recent report, there is no significant difference in average development costs for green buildings as compared to non-green buildings and most green buildings recoup any extra expenditure through increased energy efficiency in less than five years.¹

IBT’s design and architectural team has also begun the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation process, with nearly 50% of IBT’s designers already having achieved Accredited Professional status. LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
